Shan Li is an Tenured Associate Professor and a Ph.D. superviser at the School of Medicine, Southern University of Science and Technology. She is a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Excellent Young Scientists Fund and the Hubei Provincial Outstanding Young Scientist Fund. Over the years, she has focused on researching the molecular mechanisms of pathogen infections and host immunity, with a particular emphasis on enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and chromobacterium. Her work has uncovered various pathogen-host interaction mechanisms, including the mechanisms of bacterial infection, human host inflammatory responses and cell death, and phage infection-bacterial anti-phage mechanisms.

She has discovered and named two novel protein post-translational modifications (Arginine-GlcNAcylation and ADPR-Deacylization) and has developed the scientific chain from "novel discovery" to "molecular mechanism elucidation" to "research tool development and commercialization" for the arginine N-acetylglucosamine modification (Arginine-GlcNAcylation). Her related findings are included in the Textbook of Rheumatology (10th Edition) and have been translated into multiple languages. She has published over 20 papers in academic journals such as Nature, Molecular Cell (3 papers), Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Communications Biology, Apoptosis, Science of The Total Environment, Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, Science, Cell, Cell Research, PNAS, JOC, Cell Host & Microbe, and Genes & Development, with a cumulative SCI impact factor exceeding 300, over 3000 citations according to Google Scholar, and an H-index of 16. She has led or participated in more than twenty projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s General Projects (2 projects), the Excellent Young Scientists Fund, the Ministry of Science and Technology's 13th and 14th Five-Year Key R&D Programs (2 projects), provincial education department innovation teams, and provincial outstanding youth projects. She has also guided team members in obtaining various national and youth project approvals.
