Biography
Dr Guan Lin obtained his BEng degree from Zhejiang University in 2009 and his PhD degree in structural engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2016. Dr Lin was a Research Assistant Professor at PolyU from 2017-07 to 2022-07. He joined Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology in 2022-08 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022-12. Dr Lin’s research interests include the structural use of novel engineering materials [e.g., fiber reinforced polymer (FRP), ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), engineered cementitious composites (ECC)], high-performance and durable structures enabled by novel engineering materials particularly for marine infrastructure, advanced numerical modelling of FRP-strengthened/reinforced concrete structures, recycling of concrete, 3D printing of FRP-concrete structures. Dr Lin has published over 40 SCI journal papers which have attracted over 1000 citations with an H-index of 18 in Scopus. His research outcomes have been adopted by the 2nd Edition of the Chinese national standard GB50608 2020 and the 2nd Edition of the Chinese technical specification CECS146 2022. His PhD thesis won the IIFC (International Institute for FRP in Construction) Runner-up Award for Best PhD Thesis in 2018. He was one of the Organizing/Academic/Scientific Committee Members for more than 10 international or national conferences. As one of the secretaries, he organized several international conferences/workshops. He is now a member of IIFC, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Coasts, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute (COPRI), ASCE Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), Architectural Society of China, and Hong Kong Association of Overseas-Returned Scholars. He served as a Guest Editor for a special issue of the SCI journal Materials in 2021. He is a Review Editor of Journal of Frontiers in Materials - Structural Materials, an Editorial Board Member of Open Journal of Civil Engineering, the Assistant to Editors-in-Chief (2018-2021) and an Early Career Board Member (2022-2025) of Advances in Structural Engineering. He is also a reviewer for the Faculty Research Grant (FRG) of The American University of Sharjah and more than 50 well-known international journals.
